History

The Pratt Thompson Company was founded in 1920 by it's namesake, Pratt Thompson. At this time the business was located on South Street.  Mr. Thompson was a Georgia native who settled in Baltimore after World War I.  In 1938 the business experienced some growing pains and moved over to Calvert Street, near Pratt Street. The company remained in this location until 1972 when, due to Inner Harbor construction, it moved to it's present location. Upon Mr. Thompson's death in the early 1960's, Michael Voelker Sr. purchased the business, where he worked until his death in 1996. The business is still run by the Voelker family, with Mike Voelker Jr. as President.
